Division of the Scientific Promotions
· About
Division of the Scientific Promotions is administratively affiliated to the University President. It is one of the important committees in the university that grants academic titles to MA and PhD degree holders by processing their applications for these titles and evaluating their researches by national and international experts. The Division has a director and administrative staff. It includes the central committee for scientific promotions, which consists of nine members form different disciplines with the title (professor). They are responsible for reviewing the applications for scientific promotions to (Lecturer), and (Asst. Professor) in the university presidency, colleges and centers affiliated with the university, as well as the applications referred to the committee by the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research.
Moreover, staffs at this division work to process and complete scientific promotion applications to the title (professor), issue university orders for scientific titles and transfer review fees to experts inside and outside Iraq. Instructions for scientific promotions have been unified and collected in a booklet to be a facilitating guide for the applicants and the sub-promotion committees in completing the procedures in the best way, shortening time and effort. They also use modern means (electronic) in communication between the central committee and reviewers. This definitely leads to reducing the time of all procedures. Staffs also make statistics for all university academics who have got scientific titles and follow up on the work of the sub-committees for promotions in the colleges.
•· Organizational Structure:
Duties:
- Internal Promotions Audit Unit:
This unit organizes the work of the Academic Promotion Affairs Division as follows:
1. Receiving confidential applications and creating special records for them for manual and electronic archiving.
2. Following up the transferring of applications and review procedures and completing their administrative procedures.
3. Contributing in finalizing the university orders related to promotions.
4. Completing all duties assigned by the director related to the division’s work.
5. Completing all reference procedures and administrative responses between the Central Promotions Committee, all colleges, and the University Presidency departments.
- External Promotions Audit Unit:
This unit organizes applications referred to the central promotions division from faculty members or staffs outside the university (such as the Ministry of Education, the Sunni Endowment, or from private universities that have been twinned with the university). The duties of this unit include the following:
A- Receiving applications for faculty and staff outside the university, registering all documents for submission to the Central Committee for Scientific Promotions.
B- Archiving all documents as hard and soft copies, and following up on promotion procedures according to the university's requirements.
C- Assisting in organizing forms for academic title confirmation and preparing university orders for them.
D- Completing all financial matters and transferring review fees to academics from all Iraqi and non-Iraqi universities.
1- Archiving and Emails Unit:
A- Archiving applications for faculty members working inside and outside the university.
B- Archiving official letters.
C- Processing ‘professor’ title applications.
D- Following up on electronic correspondence with reviewers.
E- Completing academic title awarding forms.
F- Preparing proceedings of the Central Promotions Committee and following up on the completion of all applications.
