Discussion of the master’s thesis by the student (Mahmoud Hamid Jarbou Al-Salmani)

The public discussion took place for the master’s student (Mahmoud Hamid Jarbou Al-Salmani) Department of Applied Geology - College of Science - Anbar University on Thursday, 7/18/2024, at Jaber bin Hayyan Hall. for his tagged thesis

" Additional of Local Raw Materials to Clay to Produce Lightweight and Non-Efflorescence Bricks"

The discussion committee consisted of:

Assist. Prof. Dr. Muhammad Ahmed AliThis study aimed to:

First: Producing lightweight clay bricks that meet the required specifications of durability, thermal and sound insulation, minimizing energy consumption, reducing dead loads, etc.

Second: treat the efflorescence problem accompanying the manufacture of bricks, which greatly affects the aesthetics and durability of buildings.

The study results showed the possibility of producing lightweight (spongy) clay bricks by adding local raw (sulfur ore) in different ratios and that the density of the bricks is inversely proportional to the ratio of the sulfur used. The results also showed that it is possible to treat the efflorescence in clay bricks by adding barium carbonate compound (BaCO3) in varying weight ratios proportional to the amounts of salts in the clay.
