Hydroelectric power generation from Ramadi's dam

2018-01-13

Hydroelectric power generation from Ramadi's dam

Our research center supervised a master's thesis on the optimal height of a small dam series on the Euphrates River to generate hydropower. The results were encouraging and promising to generate 45 MW by constructing three small dams, each 4.2 m height. Hydroelectricity is environmentally friendly and does not require fuel and is highly efficient. Hence, it is important to take advantage of any possible water potential. The design, manufacture and installation of pure hydroelectric turbines generate clean energy that can be used to operate a particular plant or to illuminate a small village. Since Ramadi is currently under rehabilitation, it is appropriate to study the possibility of installing small hydroelectric units during the rehabilitation process to take advantage of existing infrastructure and existing construction work.

This study came in accordance with the strategy of sustainable development of installing turbines to produce electricity to achieve the desired objectives:

1. Production of alternative energy to meet the needs of the population in Ramadi city by redirecting the energy generated to a particular project or by linking the energy generated with national electricity to distribute equally to the residential neighborhoods.

2. The possibility of benefiting from this project in opening new horizons for the production of other alternative energy like solar energy and others.
