Despite the high evaporation rates and the summer heat, the western region still has good water resources

Although two months have passed since the summer, and more than three months after the end and interruption of the rainy season, many dams in the western region of Iraq still retain a good store of rainwater that was stored from the floodwaters in the region.

Engineer Ahmed Ismail Odeh, from the Planning and Databases Department at the Upper Euphrates Basin Developing Centre – University of Anbar, said that meteorology through satellite images of the European Space Agency taken until 24-7-2024, showed that many dams in the region contain good storage levels despite the high evaporation rates, and the consumption processes by tankers for pastoralists in the region and neighboring areas, which indicates a serious need to invest these water resources to create green areas and oases that can contribute In addition, these dams can be used to develop fisheries and support development projects in the region.

The Upper Euphrates Basin Developing Centre - University of Anbar announces its readiness and its researchers to cooperate with the Ministries of Agriculture, Water Resources and Environment and the Investment Commission in Anbar Governorate, for the purpose of providing all databases and exchanging ideas and proposals for the purpose of developing development plans and foundations for investment projects to develop the management and operation of dam projects in the region, in implementation of University of Anbar’s strategic plans to serve the community and achieve the goals of sustainable development within Vision 2030.
