Statistics for the year 2023 on the amounts of rain recorded

The Planning and Databases Department at the Upper Euphrates Basin Development Center - Anbar University announced statistics related to the amounts of rain recorded at the center's station within the campus at the University of Anbar. Dr. Atheer Salim Obaid, station official, stated that the amounts of rain recorded during the year 2023 (from January to December) amounted to (170 mm) compared to the highest value recorded in the city of Ramadi, which is (222 mm) recorded in 1926, then the value recorded in 1982 of (204 mm) after that the value recorded in 1994 of (177 mm). As for the highest value recorded during one month in 2023, it reached (57 mm) recorded in November, compared to (132 mm) recorded in November 1926, the value recorded in December 2022 amounted to (94 mm), the value recorded in 1994 amounted to (76 mm) and the value recorded in 1995 of (68 mm), recorded in February. Although the figures show that the year 2023 is good compared to the drought years that preceded it, the above data and statistics indicate two things:

First: The amount of rainfall decreased significantly after the year 2000 compared to what was before with a large fluctuation.

Second: The Great Extremism in the Storm Values (event) We note that the year 2022 witnessed a recording of (94 mm), in December, while the values recorded in 2021 are (1 mm) and in 2023 are 13.8 mm) in the same month, i.e. December.

Statistics and data on hydrological monitoring stations are one of the most important sources of data for monitoring and studying climate change, which the Upper Euphrates Basin Developing Centre at University of Anbar seeks to provide to specialists, researchers and graduate students in this field within the strategic plans of the centre and the university and Vision 2030 to achieve sustainable development goals.
