Satellite images confirm the meteorology of the Upper Euphrates Basin Developing Centre - University of Anbar

In confirmation of what was announced by the Planning and Databases Department - Upper Euphrates Basin Developing Centre / University of Anbar in a previous report documented by videos on the enhancement of the water storage in the Abila Dam and its access to levels close to the maximum design capacity of the dam of (4) million cubic meters, the department published satellite images obtained from satellites of the European Space Agency showing the filling of the Abila Dam as a result of the recent wave of rain on December 27 and 28, 2023, images taken on various days in December showed that the source of the water that contributed to the filling of the dam was the recent torrential rains.

The images also showed the strengthening of the water storage in the Agri Dam, which has a height of (11.2) m and an area of (840.5) square kilometers and a storage capacity of (7) million cubic meters and is located near the city of Rutba. As for the Massad Dam, the images indicated that the flood water pool at the front of the dam, which was not completed due to the suspension of work in 2014, has a height of (17.5) m, an area of (314) square kilometers and a design capacity of (6.82) million cubic meters. . The images also monitored the filling of the Al-Ga'ara 4 Dam, which has a design capacity of four million cubic meters, which indicates the heavy rain in this area during the last wave on December 27 and 28, 2023, which the Upper Euphrates Basin Developing Centre had previously announced that its recorded quantity is (34) mm.

The Upper Euphrates Basin Development Center adopts a program to provide continuous databases of hydrological data for the purpose of studying and monitoring climate change with the support of the Presidency of the University of Anbar within its strategic plans and Vision 2030 to achieve sustainable development goals, in addition to working to make these databases available to graduate students and researchers in the field of studying climate change.
