Statistics of the amounts of rain and runoff events that were monitored during the rain wave on December 27, 28, 2023

The Planning and Databases Department at the Upper Euphrates Basin Developing Centre - University of Anbar announced statistics on the amounts of rain recorded in the centre's stations and runoff events that were monitored during the rain wave on December 27, 28, 2023.

Dr. Atheer Salim Obaid, the official of the weather station at the Centre, said that the amount of rain recorded at the station reached (5.8 mm).

As for the terminal station in Haditha, the amount of rain recorded reached (2.54 mm), according to data mentioned by Engineer Juma’a Mohammed Ahmed, the head of the station.

In the district of Rutba, Engineer Ahmed Ismail Odeh indicated that the recorded rains amounted to (34 mm) and floods were monitored in Al-Abila valley, on which the Al-Abila Dam is located, which has a storage capacity of four million cubic meters, in addition to Al-Massad valley near Al-Rutba, which includes the Al-Massad Dam under construction (completed by 70%) and stopped due to events in 2014, which has a storage capacity of more than six million cubic meters, which reached its liquidity in the last season three times. This requires work to complete it as soon as possible because of its great importance in providing water to the city of Rutba, in addition to recording torrents in the Tabel Valley, which witnessed many floods last season and does not include any dam, which requires investing runoff water in this valley and establishing a dam on it.

According to the department, detailed statistics will be released during the next few days for the amounts of runoff events and rains during the month of December and also during the year 2023.
