Monthly statistics of rainfall recorded during January 2023

The Planning and Databases Department at the Upper Euphrates Basin Developing Centre issued the monthly statistics of the rainfall quantities recorded in the center's weather stations, which included January 2023.

Dr. Atheer Salim Al-Mawla, official of the weather station at the center, stated that the amount of rain recorded in Ramadi for the month of January 2023 amounted to 57 mm, by reviewing the recorded data records of the amounts of rain in the city of Ramadi for the period from 1923-2023 and for the same period, i.e. January, it was found that rainfall amounts of more than 50 mm were recorded in the years 1933, 1988, 1993, 2006, which is the highest value since 1993 when a rainfall amount of 76.2 mm was recorded. The amount of rain recorded this year 2023 is the highest in the last thirty years in the city of Ramadi for the month of January.

As for the terminal station in Haditha, the amount of rain recorded reached 22 mm during January 2023, and when reviewing the data records on the rains recorded in Haditha since 1960 and for the same period, i.e. January, these data indicated that the average rainfall recorded this year is less than the normal rates for this period of the year.

As for the city of Rutba, a rainfall of 28 mm was recorded during January 2023, which is higher than the average rainfall recorded in the region during the same period of the year for the data recorded at the station since 1960.

Dr. Ahmed Saud Mohammed, Director of the Planning and Data Department, said that the available databases and what has been monitored during the last two seasons clearly indicate the need to modernize the rain lines of the region and that the department's researchers are continuing to complete an ambitious study to modernize the rain lines at the level of Iraq, and advanced rates of this study have been completed.
