A study on the promising areas for the investment of renewable energies in Anbar Governorate


Within the research plan of the Department of Natural Resources at the Upper Euphrates Basin Developing Center – University of Anbar, and as one of the most important strategic natural resources in the province and in cooperation with the Faculty of Engineering / Department of Mechanical Engineering, the Renewable Energy Research Center and the College of Literature A research team was completed that included:

 - Prof. Waleed Mohammed Abed / College of Engineering.

 - Prof. Raed Khader Salman / Renewable Energy Research Center.

- Prof. Salah Adnan Majwal / College of Literature.

 - Eng. Salah Sabbar Thumail/ Upper Euphrates Basin Development Center. 

The study focused on the most promising areas for the investment of wind and solar energy, which comes within the directions of the university and the center to achieve the goals of sustainable development, shift towards clean energy, reduce thermal emissions and support the transition towards a green economy to achieve Vision 2030.

The study concluded that:

1-    The wind speed in Anbar province is operable to run wind turbines and to generate beneficial energy.

2-    - The governorate represents a suitable area for the exploitation of solar energy.

3-    The western regions of the province are the most abundant in radiation rates and provide huge amounts of energy.

4-    Using solar tower technology as a strategic solution.
