Awareness workshop about the scourge of drugs
On Tuesday, April 30, 2024, the Women’s Affairs and Psychological Counseling and Educational Guidance Units at the College of Science at Anbar University, in cooperation with the Rehabilitation Center for Drug Addicts and Drug Users and the Drug Control Directorate, organized an awareness workshop entitled “The Scourge of Drugs and Its Negatives on the Health of the Individual and Society.”
The workshop, which was held in the Ibn Sina Hall in the presence of the Dean of the College of Science, stressed the importance of this workshop, which talks about drugs, which constitute a great danger and that they have become widespread in a disturbing manner recently, threatening society’s health and social fabric. The workshop aimed to raise awareness among the students. The dangers of drugs to physical and mental health, informing them of the legal measures taken against drug users and dealers, and highlighting the role of the family and society in preventing this scourge.
The workshop was attended by Professor Dr. Abdul Rahman Hamdi Shafi from the College of Islamic Sciences, Captain Nimir Sami Enad from the Rehabilitation Center for Drug Addicts and Users, and Legal Officer Marwan Muhammad Abdullah from the Narcotics Control Directorate.
The workshop included the dangers of drugs to the user, dealers, and traffickers, where Captain Namir Sami Anad stressed the great dangers of drugs to the person who deals with them, pointing out that they cause legal repercussions for him and for those who deal with this dangerous scourge that destroys families and disintegrates society, in addition to psychological and mental disorders. .
From the legal perspective, legal expert Marwan Muhammad Abdullah provided a detailed explanation of the legal measures taken against drug users and drug dealers, explaining the penalties imposed for each of these crimes.
Regarding the role of the family and society in drug prevention, especially from a legal perspective, Professor Dr. Abdel-Rahman Hamdi Shafi pointed to the role of the family and society in drug prevention, by providing a healthy and safe environment for young people, promoting moral values and religious principles, and providing psychological support to young people, in addition to the sanctity of all Narcotic types.
The workshop received positive interaction from the students, who asked many questions about drugs and their effects, and expressed their desire to obtain more information about how to prevent them.
