Discussion of a PhD thesis for the student (Samar Nasser Muhammad)

The public discussion of the doctoral student (Samar Nasser Muhammad) from the Department of Chemistry - College of Science - University of Anbar took place on Monday, October 31, 2022 at Jaber Bin Hayyan Hall in the College of Science for her thesis tagged:

Synthesis of Multi-Walled Carbon Nanotubes from Walnuts Shell and Studying their Clinical Applications

The study aims to Multi-walled carbon nanotubes were synthesized from walnut shells using an ultrasound technique, while a new device was invented to prepare gold nanoparticles using green chemistry. Then, new composites of gold and carbon nanotubes were prepared. The prepared nanoparticles were used for in vitro breast cancer MCF-7 cell line treatment using photothermal therapy technique synergistic with near-infrared (NIR) laser at 1064 and 808 nm wavelengths. The new compounds gave promising results in eliminating cancer cells using very few concentrations. These compounds were also used to study the enzymatic activity of the alkaline phosphatase enzyme(ALP( in vitro using pure and serum enzymes. It gave good results as it led to the inhibiting of the pure enzyme and activation in the serum enzyme.

It is worth noting that the student obtained two patents and the third is in the process of being issued, as well as published two research papers in two reputable journals with a high impact factor within the Clarivate classification of her thesis.

After extensive discussion by the committee members with the student about the topic of her thesis, the thesis was accepted.
