Discussion of a master's thesis for the student (Mohammed Assim Hussein)

The public discussion of the master’s thesis for the student (Mohammed Assim Hussein) in the Department of Chemistry - College of Science - University of Anbar took place on Tuesday, October 18, 2022 in Jaber Ibn Hayyan Hall in the College of Science for his tagged thesis:

Synthesis of carbon nanostructures and study of their environmental Applications

The study aimed to prepare Carbon nanostructures were prepared in two different forms (carbon nanotubes and carbon nanoparticles) from industrial waste (graphite rods extracted from used batteries) and agricultural waste (starch extracted from potato chips factories). Electric arc discharge method was used to obtain carbon nanotubes while ultrasound device was used to obtain carbon nanotubes. Several techniques such as scanning electron microscopy (FESEM), transmission electron microscopy (TEM), energy dispersive spectroscopy (EDS) and X-ray diffraction (XRD) have been used to detect the resulting carbon nanotubes (CNTs) and CNPs. Gas sensing applications have been studied as the prepared carbon nanotubes were used in the detection of toxic and harmful raids (hydrogen sulfide, nitrogen dioxide). The application of CNPs and CNTs in aluminum-air electrochemical battery was examined. Conducting cyclic voltammetry to know the redox potentials of nanotubes and nanoparticles.
