Scientific symposium at the College of Science

As part of its ongoing activities, the College of Science at Anbar University held a scientific symposium entitled ((Cancer: Influencing Genetic Factors and Immunohistochemical Diagnosis of Cancer Diseases)), with the participation of a number of professors, researchers and students from the College.

The symposium, which was held on Wednesday, February 28, 2024, in the Jaber Bin Hayyan Hall, aims to
To define cancer and how it forms, in addition to the role of genes, mutations and other genetic factors in causing cancer, in addition to histochemical diagnosis using IHC technology, which relies on the principle of binding of antibodies to proteins (antigens) present in the tissue biopsy, and this binding results in colored (brown) deposits. Dark) in the glass slide when examined with an optical microscope, which indicates the presence of cancer cells (positive examination).
It included two lectures presented by Dr. Hind Younis Khalaf and Dr. Reem Khaled Ibrahim, in which they discussed the importance of studying the genetic factors that contribute to the development of cancer, and how to use immunohistochemical techniques to diagnose and classify cancer types and determine the degree of its severity and resistance to treatment.
They explained that cancer is a disease resulting from genetic changes in normal cells that cause them to grow and divide abnormally, forming malignant tumors, and that there are inherited or acquired genetic factors that increase the risk of cancer, such as genetic mutations, chromosomal changes, and exposure to carcinogens.
