The University President Visits the University of Grenoble-Alpes

In continuation of the intensive work program and the invitations from the French Embassy in Baghdad and the reputable French universities to the University of Anbar, the University of Anbar’s delegation headed by the President of the University, Prof. Dr. Mushtak Talib Al-Neda, the Dean of the College of Engineering, the Dean of the College of Science, and the Director of the Department of Scholarships and Cultural Relations, in the presence of Mrs. Bernadette Chehu, French Scientific and University Cooperation Attaché in Baghdad, visited the University of Grenoble-Alpes.

The University of Grenoble-Alpes is classified as one of the best French universities and is ranked among the first 150 international universities according to the Shanghai World Ranking. It is known for its reputation and academic influence at the French and European levels. It ranks thirty-third in terms of innovations at the level of the European universities and it includes more than ten thousand international students from 160 countries. The University of Grenoble-Alpes is also considered one of the most important stations through which application for research grants funded by the European Union within the Erasmus + Project can be made. 

It was initially agreed to establish an international partnership that would be framed by signing a memorandum of understanding between the two universities that aimed at enhancing the skills of undergraduate and postgraduate students, in addition to activating the visiting professor program and increasing the volume of research grants for Iraqi students in general and the University of Anbar students in particular.

The President of the University also emphasized that the focus should be on topics of common interest, including water resources, renewable energy, combating desertification, sustainable development, and projects related to preserving heritage and civilization as a starting point for expanding joint international research cooperation.

At the end of the visit, representatives of the University of Grenoble-Alpes expressed their happiness with the achievements of the University of Anbar and its established strategic plan, and their desire to establish a true international research partnership. From the day of the visit, it was agreed to link our University’s researchers, in particular researchers from the College of Science, with the corresponding College of Sciences/University of Grenoble-Alpes and to begin establishing a sustainable international research partnership.

For his part, the President of the University expressed his true happiness and great gratitude to the Republic of France and its embassy in Baghdad for these invitations and the warm reception, stressing at the same time, the keenness of the University of Anbar and all its staff members, to extend and open all channels of communication with French universities and to activate the international partnership signed by the Iraqi Prime Minister and the President of the Republic of France, framed within the memorandum of understanding signed between the ministries of higher education and scientific research in the two countries.
