Visit of a ministerial committee to the Upper Euphrates Basin Developing Centre to establish scientific departments in it

The ministerial committee formed under the ministerial order (BC 8/ 5241) on 20/5/2024, issued by the Research and Development Department at the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research, Upper Euphrates Basin Developing Centre at University of Anbar, to determine the availability of the requirements for the establishment of two departments in the centre (Environment and Pollution Department) and (Meteorology and Climate Department), in addition to changing the name of the centre to (Upper Euphrates Centre for Sustainable Development Research), and the visiting delegation was received by the Director of the Centre, Prof. Dr. Ammar Hatem Kamel, and the members of the Centre, professors and researchers, and that was on Thursday Corresponding to 30/5/2024.

The Ministerial Committee consisted of the following members:

1.     Assoc. Prof. Dr. Khudair Gouda Yasser / Director of the Marshes Research Centre / University of Thi-Qar / Chairman.

2.     Prof. Dr. Zainab Bahaa Ahmed / Director of the Environmental Research Centre / University of Technology / member.

3.     Prof. Nihad Mohammed Abboud / Director of Desert Studies Centre / University of Anbar / member.

Assoc. Prof. Safaa Khudair Hashim / Director of the Environment and Renewable Energy Research Centre / University of Karbala / Member.

During the visit, an introductory film was presented about the achievements of the Centre and the contributions of its researchers, in addition to a presentation by the Director of the Centre on the vision, mission, objectives, research lines, and the reasons for amending the name of the Centre and the two sections mentioned above. After that, the Ministerial Committee conducted a reconnaissance tour of the corridors of the Centre, from the departments, laboratories, halls, research terminal station, and meteorological air station, and listened to a detailed explanation by the heads of departments, each according to his department, the extent of the work of these departments and the percentage of development witnessed through research and studies provided by the researchers of each department. The Ministerial Committee expressed its admiration for what was presented, and appreciated the great development witnessed by the Centre, after which a consultative meeting was held to answer some questions related to the work of the Centre.

This important step in the development of departments for environment and pollution, as well as meteorology and climate, comes within the university's directions, strategic plan and vision 2030, to achieve the goals of sustainable development, one of the most important pillars of which is the issue of environment, pollution, emissions, in addition to climate changes, the importance of meteorology, and the study of these changes, as most of the seventeen sustainable development goals are related to the environment, whether water, soil or air, and the impact of climate change on it.
