(To rationalize water consumption) a research study for recycling ablution (wodho’o) water in mosques in Anbar province

In line with the directions of the University of Anbar within its strategic plan and Vision 2030, to achieve the goals of sustainable development, and the completion of research and studies that serve the environment and society, and the efforts of the staff of the Upper Euphrates Basin Developing Centre at the University of Anbar, with different scientific specializations, a research team studied the recycling and treatment of water used in ablution (wodho’o) in the mosques of the city of Ramadi, through a system to collect and treat it using physical and chemical techniques with the use of low-cost sustainable materials.

The project has been measuring the chemical, physical and biological properties of water before treatment and after treatment, and has achieved a rate of removal (treatment) of 90% of pollutants in the water, and 95% of bacteria and fungi, and access to water suitable for various uses and agricultural ones, in accordance with international specifications and standards such as the Iraqi Central Agency, standardization and quality control, the World Health Organization, and the US Environmental Protection Agency, and this research project will be implemented in the near future on the land of the Upper Euphrates Basin Developing Centre, within the centre’s plans to achieve development goals of Sustainable and Vision 2030.
