Rain and runoff enhance water storage in the dams of the western region

The Planning and Databases Department at the Upper Euphrates Basin Developing Centre / University of Anbar announced the enhancement of the water storage in the Al-Abila Dam, which is located on one of the branches of Horan, north of the city of Rutba, with a height of (11.5) m and a storage capacity of (4) million cubic meters.

Engineer Ahmed Ismail Odeh from the Planning and Databases Department stated that the continued flow of runoff events from the valley’s watershed, amounting to (176.92) square kilometers of the rain wave on December 27, 28, 2023, and the extension of the flow of torrents during December 29, has strengthened the water storage in the dam and reached levels close to the maximum design capacity.

On the other hand, the flow of runoff events continued through Tabel valley within the Habbariya area in relatively large quantities, but as we pointed out in a previous bulletin, there is no dam within the watershed of Tabel valley, and we reiterate the call for the need to invest this water.

The videos sent to the center's electronic page from Engineer Ahmed Ismail showed the return of the beauty of nature in the region and the possibility of investing it for agricultural purposes, as it contains promising soils in this regard, and as we pointed out, the Tabel valley region witnessed repeated floods from the last season 2022-2023 and also the current 2023-2024.
