About the directives of the Iraqi Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research / Scientific Supervision and Evaluation Authority / Department of Quality Assurance and Academic Accreditation / Quality Assurance Department, to hold awareness lectures on energy and environmental sustainability for all students of the colleges of the university, at the rate of one lecture per year for each stage in all departments and grades, Assistant Professor Dr. (Muneer Naji Ahmed), Head of the Natural Resources Development Department at the Upper Euphrates Basin Developing Centre, participated in a lecture at the College of Literature / University of Anbar, on Tuesday, 10/31/2023, which It was entitled: (Climate Change and its Impact on Iraq) (Causes and Solutions)

The lecture dealt with many themes, the most important of which were: the definition of the meaning of climate change, addressing the topic of global warming, its definition, the most important greenhouse gases that cause global warming, and the most important phenomena facing Iraq resulting from climate change in the coming periods, including dust storms and the most important areas and areas prone to drought in Iraq, and the impact of all this on food insecurity, the spread of epidemic diseases and famines, in addition to destabilizing national security and the spread of troubles, demonstrations and crime.

The lecturer also touched on the causes of environmental pollution and high temperatures resulting from the accumulation of greenhouse gases in the atmosphere due to human activity, the energy industry and other industries.

He pointed to the most important international events in which Iraq participated to confront these changes, the most important of which was participation in global climate conferences, including the COP26 conference, in addition to the launch of the national initiative to support energy and reduce emissions under the approval of the General Secretariat of the Council of Ministers, which calls for supporting the rationalization of energy consumption for its pivotal role in reducing emissions and meeting the requirements of the climate agreement.

Before the end of the lecture, the lecturer presented the most important proposed solutions to confront climate change in Iraq and reduce its effects, in addition to introducing the sustainable development goals and the role of the National Initiative to Support Energy and Reduce Emissions in supporting it, and the relationship of this initiative in achieving the sustainable development goals.
