Depths of rainfall and floods recorded in some valleys of the western region

Dr. Atheer Salim Al-Mawla, responsible of the hydrological station at the Upper Euphrates Basin Developing Centre, announced that the amount of rain recorded at the centre station amounted to 17.4 mm recorded on 12-4-2023. As for the terminal station in Haditha, it recorded 2.35 mm, according to the data mentioned by Mr. Ayoub Youssef Ahmed.

In continuation of monitoring and recording runoff events  in the western region as a result of the rain wave on April 11 and 12 to develop and update databases on water resources in the region, Engineer Juma Muhammad Ahmed, responsible for the terminal station in Haditha, which is affiliated with the Upper Euphrates Basin Developing Centre at the University of Anbar, announced the monitoring and registration of runoff events in both Horan valley and Hajlan valley, while the rest of the valleys that contain stations for the centre did not record any runoff events.

According to the recorded data, the discharge of Horan valley at the measurement station of the Upper Euphrates Basin Developing Centre near a Ramadi-Haditha road reached about 200 cubic meters per second at peak time on Wednesday 12-4-2023 as a result of the arrival of runoff events due to rain in the upper valley, which fell on the region on 11-4-2023 and its confluence with runoff events as a result of rain at the bottom of the valley on 12-4-2023.

While the floods recorded today, Thursday 13-4-2023, witnessed a significant decrease, as the discharge of Horan valley at the measurement station of the Upper Euphrates Basin Developing Centre reached 19 cubic meters per second at about ten o'clock in the morning.

As for Hajlan valley within the city of Haditha, runoff events were monitored with a discharge of 23 cubic meters per second at the centre measurement station at the archaeological bridge in the valley at peak time on Wednesday 12-4-2023, and the wave of floods receded this day, as no significant discharges were recorded on Thursday 13-4-2023.

The measurement stations on the valleys of Zaghdan and Banat El-Hassan did not record any significant floods, and detailed data on the depths of rain recorded will be released later.
