((In a new achievement)) The success of wheat cultivation in gypsiferous soils without treatment

Within the research plan of the Department of Natural Resources Development, in the study of the types of vegetable crops and their water consumption under various conditions, especially in dry environments and weak soils such as gypsiferous soils prevailing in Anbar Governorate, including the soil of the university site, a team from the department, headed by Assistant Professor Dr. Nawfal Adnan Sabry and under the supervision of the head of the department, conducted an evaluation of the results of the cultivation of the wheat crop, which was planted in the research station of the centre at the university site using seeds from the local market that were planted in October 2022. Without tillage or soil treatment or adding any fertilizers and depending on the rainwater for the season.

The results were very encouraging, as the wheat spikes gave good vegetative growth of the stem and leaves and the number of expected kernels in the spikes, which are currently in the pasty phase, as one spike gave 90 grains during this phase, which also expected to reveal ideal yield properties for the plant.

Work was also done on the experiment of planting seedlings of pomegranate trees in soils characterized by high sulfur content, and the initial evaluation showed encouraging results through the growth of seedlings in addition to their flowering.

It is noteworthy that work is currently underway at the research station in the centre (at the university site) to complete the construction of artesian well and the irrigation system after the directive of the university presidency to complete it and allocate the necessary funds within the university's plan to support research centres' plans after the centre was recently equipped with a solar energy system and in a way that supports the plans of the centre and the university to develop studies and research in the field of using renewable energies in agriculture and encourage postgraduate students in this field.
