New floods in the valleys of the western region

As part of its continuous follow-up to record torrents and water revenues in the valleys of the western region as one of the most important natural resources in the region, the Upper Euphrates Basin Development Center at the University of Anbar, in cooperation with the Department of the Resident Engineer for Small Dams in the Western Region, announces the registration of torrents in Wadi Houran as a result of the rains that fell at dawn on Wednesday 7/12/2022 in the southwestern areas of Rutba.

Engineer Ali Saleh from the Department of Resident Engineer of Small Dams said that the centre of the Rutba district recorded rain of 2 mm, while the intensity of rain at the upper Horan valley in the southwestern areas of Rutba was much higher and the runoff rains led to the water levels in the Rutba Dam reaching levels close to the top of the dam's water flow, while the levels of runoff rains in Horan valley at the measurement station of the Upper Euphrates Basin Developing Centre on the Horan Bridge in Rutba reached a depth of 1.2 m, where According to the estimates and calculations of the Planning and Databases Department in the centre, the valley discharge was  23.4 cubic meters per second at the peak time of the flood.

Floods have also been monitored in Al-Massad valley near Rutba as well, and the Planning and Databases Department at the centre will issue detailed statistics of water outputs later.

Dr. Atheer Saleem Al-Mawla said that the amounts of rain recorded at the centre's water station on the campus of University of Anbar did not exceed 1 mm for this day.
