Assessment of the water quality of Haditha dam tank using remote sensing and (GIS) technology

Today, Sunday, 13/11/2022, a seminar was held, which was moderated by the Head of the Planning and Databases Department at the Upper Euphrates Basin Developing Centre, Dr. Ahmed Saud Mohammed, which was entitled: (Evaluation of the quality of Haditha dam reservoir water using remote sensing technology and (GIS). This was on the meeting room of the centre.

In this study, remote sensing technology and geographic information system (GIS) were employed in the hydro chemical study of the water of the reservoir of the Haditha Dam located on the Euphrates River because of the great importance of this dam in diameter and its impact on the Euphrates River. Traditional means do not meet the required need in practice to study the quality and condition of water and for large areas that need to be provided sufficient amounts and time, Where an analytical study was conducted that takes the hydro chemical aspect of water by taking samples from the reservoir water, conducting physical and chemical water tests, comparing them with standard specifications, and linking the results of these tests with geographic information systems (GIS) programs for the purpose of producing layers representing the nature of the spatial distribution of these factors over the entire area of the reservoir.

An analytical study of the spectral reflectivity values of the study area was carried out from the space image captured by the satellite (Landsat - 7) through the sensor ETM+ and for all spectral bands extending from (0.45-12.5) micrometers, where the correlation coefficient between spectral reflectivity and all water quality factors was extracted.
