Subcommittee on Countering Extremist Violence That Inspires Terror in the Anbar Governorate

The Subcommittee on Combating Violent Extremism Leading to Terrorism in the Anbar Governorate held its fifth meeting today, Monday. The meeting was presided over by the Deputy Governor for Administrative Affairs, and members of the committee, including Professor Dr. Thaer Shaker Mahmoud, Director of the Center for Strategic Studies/University of Anbar. And several gentleman department heads in the governorate office, as well as the district mayor of Fallujah. Speaking on the National Security Advisory meeting on May 20, 2024, the Deputy Governor for Administrative Affairs underlined the points made therein as a work guide for the following phase.  The subcommittee's plan was discussed during the meeting. It included measures to counter violent extremism that feeds into terrorism, ways to fortify media discourse in support of societal peace principles, and the critical role that women, youth, religious scholars, tribal sheikhs, and community leaders play in confronting dangerous phenomena (such as combat drugs, electronic extortion, and sales related to the usurious aspect). Additionally, there have been reports of customs and practices that are at odds with the values of our community, our clans, and the real religion.
