  Prof. Dr. Thaer Shaker Mahmoud al-Hiti, the Centre for Strategic Studies' director has participated as a member of the organizing committee for Anbar University's two-day first Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Forum. The Anbar University Forum for Combating Drugs and Psychotropic Substances was established in its first edition with the support of His Excellency Dr. Naim Yasser Al-Aboudi, Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, and under the direction of Professor Dr. Mushtak Talib Saleh Al-Neda, President of Anbar University.The conference opened with the reading of Surah Al-Fatiha on the souls of the Iraqi martyrs, the playing of the Iraqi national anthem, and the recitation of any wise dhikr in the presence of judges, security chiefs, and religious scholars in addition to Sheikh Adnan al-juhaishi, the chairman of the House of Representatives' anti-drug committee. A brief introduction to the university was followed by a speech by the president, who was speaking on behalf of His Excellency the minister of higher education. He stated that the university plans to host this forum every year as part of its serious efforts to combat drug abuse and other psychotropic substances of all kinds, which is one of the most serious social diseases.  The idea to host this conference to share thoughts and visions to combat drugs and strategies to immunize our young and society against this hazardous disease emerged from the university leaders' sense of responsibility towards the country and its sons.

Dr. Moayed Jubeir Mahmoud moderated the first dialogue session, which featured the following: the judge of the Anbar Criminal Court, Hussam Mohammed Abdullah; the president of Anbar University, represented by His Excellency the Minister of Higher Education; Sheikh Adnan al-juhaishi, the chairman of the House of Representatives committee to combat drugs and psychotropic substances; Mr. Wissam Zubin, Assistant Director General of Anbar health; and professor Dr. Nabil Jassim, Head of the social department at the Faculty of Arts. Following the debate session, a film called "slow death," which was made by the government's media and communication department, was presented, followed by a poem by Dr. Amer Mehidi.
