Cooperative scientific symposium on water management in Upper Euphrates basin


             Under the slogan "Our water between the waste of floods and the scarcity of drought", our research center in cooperation with the Center for Strategic Studies at University of Anbar held a scientific symposium titled "Towards a Strategic Vision for Managing the Water Crisis in Upper Euphrates Basin" at 10 am on Sunday, May 5, 2019 at the Center for Desert Studies hall.

The symposium, which was attended by Prof. Dr. Khalid Batal Al-Najem, President of University of Anbar and a number of professors and researchers, contained four lectures. The first lectures were given by Senior Chief Engineers Ayad Abdul Aziz Mahmood, Director of Water Resources Directorate in Anbar province, entitled "Optimal use of rainwater and flood waters and storage in dams and lakes for the 2018/2019 season. The second was “Flooding in the rivers and large valleys” by Assist. Prof. Dr. Ammar Hatem Kamel Director of Cultural Relations Department at the Presidency of the University. The third was “Floods in Iraq historical background” by Dr. Abdul Aziz Khuder Abbas, chancellor to the University President for Public Relations and the last lecture submitted from Dr . Muneer Naji Ahmed, a researcher in Upper Euphrates Basin Development Center  which was entitled “Iraq's water to where”.

At the end of the seminar, the President expressed his admiration for the topics presented by the researchers and the authors and prepared a number of ideas and proposals that could be effective research projects in the near future in the management of Upper Euphrates water basin. His Excellency presented certificates of appreciation to the participants.
